Cool. Just makin sure I wasn't wasting my time doin this. I am neither optimist nor pessimist. I am what I like to call a realist. I don't like to spin reality with false hope or sadness. It is like it is...some things in life just suck. They do happen for a reason. Everything happens for a reason. We don't even need to know the reason. [although it is cool when we find out and everything starts to make sense] Our plans for our lives have no real point. We are here for a purpose and everything else in life is just a distraction. Well, not everything. But you know what I mean. We put too much worth in the stupid things we do every day. Too much worth in stuff. I watch people at car shows with the signs that say Keep Off! or Don't Touch and laugh. It's just a freakin hunk of metal that you shined up all pretty. You can always shine it again. And as far as the "My car's faster than your car" thing goes, there is always someone faster. I always used to dream of building the fastest street legal car in the world, but then I realized what a waste of time it would be. All to just feed my pride, which I have too much of anyway. I have found that if you have realistic expectations, you are not often disappointed with what happens. Granted you may not like what happens, but it happens for a reason, so shut up. Think about someone else for once. For those of you who were at the green room tonight, do what Grant said. Listen! It's not that hard. Try and really pay attention to somebody. Don't think about what you're gonna say while they're talking. Let them just talk. Don't put your opinion in there. Just shut up and listen. Like really listen too, not just with your ears, but with your eyes too. Watch their body language, their expressions, their eyes. You'll understand so much more about them. It's really cool. Plus it makes the person you're listening to feel special. And who doesn't like feeling special? posted by dave @ 11:58 PM 6.15.2005
So I guess this is an update. Yep, I have a job. It's actually full time. I wasn't expecting that. That does mean I'll make good money. I sweep floors and stuff. And the oil changes, and puttin on new tires and shuttling cars and customers everywhere, and picking up parts, and helping out all the real mechanics. It's actually a job I really enjoy. I'm learnin a lot about the business. I'm apprenticing for Bob, who's pretty cool. I also help out Miguel, the "hispanic mechanic," and the other guy, Dave. The boss guy's name is Rocky. He's pretty cool, he's owned the place since the 60's and stuff. V&R stands for Vito [his brother] and Rocky. Yep, it's pretty sweet. Except for the having to be there at like 7:30 every morning. That part kinda wears on me. But I do get out at 3:30 every day, so it isn't so bad. Yeah, that's what I do all day now. Then after work, if I'm still awake enough to move, I sometimes stay up there in the Elmhurst area and hang out with my friend Joe, his girlfriend Jenni, and her best friend Missy. It's quite fun. I can't wait for my first check. I've realized something. Anything I put my mind to, I can prettymuch master. Except for women. Cause that's just unpossible. Is there anything to tell you guys? Hmmm...not really. I'm coming to the realization that I'm a hopeless romantic, I guess that's new. Yeah, that's about it. Oh, one more thing. Kindof a poll. If you read this post, please leave a comment saying you read this post. And don't tell anybody to read this either. I want a real result to the poll type thing. That way this won't become the second to last post ever. posted by dave @ 7:45 PM 6.02.2005
Good news! I just got 11.5 mpg with my last tank of gas! I'm eccited. I was also driving with quite the heavy foot this tank. [just like all my other tanks] Why the change? Dunno...didn't drive it on the highway or anything. The scary part is, I filled up a few minutes ago when the gas gauge said just a hair below half and it took 18.4 gallons! I should burn a whole tank through on the highway to see what's the best mileage I can possibly get. In other news, I think I got a job today. V&R Tire in Villa Park. Seems like a nice enough place. I'm just an apprentice, so it doesn't have the glory of maybe a night stocker at the local Wal-Mart, but that's ok. My only concern thus far is that it's in Villa Park. Like a half hour away from home. I don't like commuting, so we'll see how that goes. I applied at the one in Lisle, which is like 5 minutes from my house, so I hope they transfer me there or somethin. I start tomorrow at 7am. Needless to say, I'm kinda nervous. I'll tell you how it goes. posted by dave @ 8:00 PM |
